WTEN | Saint Mary's Falls to LMU in WCC Championship

Despite winning the first battle between the two teams this season, the Gaels fell at the conference tournament to the Lions.

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Saint Mary's season came to a close on Thursday as they lost in the quarterfinals of the WCC Championship to Loyola Marymount, 4-0.

The Lions (11-9, 4-5 WCC) grabbed the doubles point with two 6-3 wins on Courts 2 and 3. No. 28 Hind Abdelouahid and Mariia Kozyreva were leading 5-3 in their match but couldn't complete the win before it was called.

LMU found production again from the bottom of their lineup with wins in the No. 4, 5, and 6 slot to take the match. Senior Clementine Clement was battling hard into the third set in her match and Abdelouahid was leading as the Gaels' three-seed as the Lions claimed the fourth and final point.

Saint Mary's (10-11, 6-3 WCC) will return nearly their whole lineup next year as their only graduate from this season is Clement. With their 6-3 mark in conference play, this season marked the 12th straight season where the Gaels have won at least six games in WCC play.
