Blake Hathcoat was named to the conference's First Team after a stellar junior campaign.
SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Gaels' junior Blake Hathcoat was named to the All-WCC First Team on Monday following a successful season as the anchor of a young Saint Mary's squad. Redshirt sophomore Michael Slesinski was also named an honorable mention.
Hathcoat was one of 10 golfers selected to the team this year. As the eldest Gael in the team's regular lineup, Hathcoat led Saint Mary's in almost all statistical categories. The Fresno, Calif. native had a team-best stroke average of 71.39 and 21 of his 36 rounds this year were par or better.
Hathcoat had his best overall performance of the season at Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic where he tied for first out of 92 competitors. Just three weeks later, he followed up with a top-5 finish at the PING Cougar Classic where he shot an all-time low 64 during the second round.
Slesinski earned honorable mention recognition after posting the second lowest stroke average of the team at 72.11. Half of his 36 rounds went for par or better and his top finish came at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invite where he tied for seventh.
Saint Mary's will now wait to see if their name will be called for the NCAA Regionals as announced on the GOLF Channel on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The Gaels are currently ranked No. 55 in the country by Golfstat.com.
