

156 Gaels Make WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll

Saint Mary's had 156 student-athletes nominated to the list for posting a GPA above 3.0 during the school year.
SAN BRUNO, Calif. — A total of 156 Saint Mary's student-athletes were named to the West Coast Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for the 2018-19 school year, as announced today by the conference.
For the eighth consecutive year, over 1,000 WCC student-athletes garnered honors on the Commissioner's Honor Roll for possessing at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. More than 1,480 student-athletes qualified for recognition, establishing a conference record for the sixth-consecutive season. The 2013-14 season was the first year more than 1,200 student-athletes met the selection criteria.
Of the Gaels' 156 honorees, 36 of those were Gold Honors (3.75 - 4.00 GPA), 37 received Silver Honors (3.50 - 3.74), and 83 earned Bronze Honors (3.00 - 3.49).
Women's soccer had the most members recognized on the list with 22 and were followed closely by men's soccer and rowing who each had 21. Women's volleyball, men's golf, and women's tennis also had over 70 percent of their team making the Honor Roll.
Chloe Goyette (women's tennis) and Ellen Burbank (women's cross country) posted the highest GPAs among Saint Mary's student-athletes with perfect 4.00 averages. Goyette is in the graduate kinesiology program while Burbank finished her freshman year studying biology.
Saint Mary's increased their number of student-athletes on the Honor Roll by 12 compared to 2017-18, an eight percent rise. There were eight more Gaels who received Golf Honors this year compared to last and an incredible 64 percent increase from two years ago when the school had 22 representatives.
To be considered for the Honor Roll, student-athletes must meet the following requirements:
1) Individuals must have earned a varsity letter in a sport which the conference determined a champion in the recently completed academic year.
2) The cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 must be based on a 4.0 scale.
3) The individuals must have successfully completed an average of at least 12 graded credit hours (non pass-fail hours) per term.
