MORAGA, Calif. – Recent alumna of the SMC volleyball program, Sarah Chase has spent the last few weeks traveling internationally and competing for the Canadian National Team at the Intercontinental Olympic Qualification Tournament and the Pan American Games.

The International Olympic Qualification Tournament took place in Kallingrad, Russia during the first week of August. Despite losing their first two matches of the tournament to Korea (3-1) and Russia (3-0), Chase and her teammates came back to sweep Mexico (3-0) in their final match.

Chase however had a strong performance and earned herself the title of fifth best scorer on the Canadian team. She recorded three blocks and two aces during her time on the court, and collected 10 digs for her team.

Chase was also part of the Canadian team that played in the Pan American Games last week in Peru as another opportunity to qualify for the Olympics. The squad fell 3-1 against Peru before falling in a pair of games against the Dominican Republic and Colombia. The Canadians then lost to the United States 3-0, which is currently being led by Saint Mary's head coach Rob Browning.

In her final season with the Gaels, Chase played a pivotal role and ended the 2018 indoor season as a WCC Honorable Mention. She was also a part of the WCC 2019 beach volleyball Pair of the Year along with Lindsey Knudsen. The duo went 24-5 in the No. 1 position for the Gaels, defeating seven ranked opponents. Following her time with Team Canada, Chase will be playing for Újpesti Torna Egylet (UTE) in Budapest, Hungary.
