Saint Mary's will play in 14 different events this season including the WCC Championships which will be played at Reflection Bay Golf Club (pictured above).
MORAGA, Calif. — Gaels' head coach Scott Hardy announced his team's 2019-20 schedule today which features a mix of new and familiar tournaments. Hardy's club will be chasing their fourth conference title and sixth straight trip to the NCAA Regionals this season.
"Our schedule is designed to test and prepare our players to compete successfully when the NCAA postseason arrives in May," said Hardy. "We will play at some of the best and most challenging courses in college golf and face top-level competition all season."
The Gaels begin their season on Sep. 16 at the Husky Invitational in Bremerton, Wash. before traveling to the Inverness Intercollegiate in Toledo, Ohio the following week. Saint Mary's won the latter two years ago and finished t-5th last season.
After two quick road trips, SMC will remain relatively close to Moraga for their next four tournaments. Saint Mary's will send individuals to the Nick Watney Invitational in Fresno before traveling to Fairfax to appear in the Alister Mackenzie Invitational. On Oct. 21, the Gaels will have individuals participate in the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational and then finish out the year at their own tournament, the Saint Mary's Invitational, which takes place from Nov. 4-6 at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach.
The season picks up in 2020 just as it did the year prior with the Gaels playing in the Arizona Intercollegiate (Jan. 27-28), John Burns Intercollegiate (Feb. 20-22), Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic (Mar. 9-10), and The Goodwin (Mar. 26-28). Last season, Saint Mary's finished third at both the Arizona Intercollegiate and Lamkin Grips with individuals placing in the top-5 of the field at each event.
SMC will have a busy end to their season as they play in three tournaments across 13 days, all of which are out of state. The team will head to Chandler, Ariz. for the Wyoming Cowboy Classic on April 6 and finish the week at the Boilermaker Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind. from April 11-12. Saint Mary's wraps up at the ASU Thunderbird the following weekend in Phoenix. The Gaels played in the highly competitive ASU Thunderbird last season among a 14-team field that featured 11 ranked programs.
The final regular season event is the West Coast Conference Championships which will be held from April 30-May 2 at Reflection Bay Golf Club in Henderson, Nevada. Reflection Bay is just 30 minutes outside of Las Vegas and was designed by all-time golf great, Jack Nicklaus.
"This schedule is the culmination of years of success," continued Hardy. "Being invited to compete in events like this shows our ability to compete successfully in the WCC and most importantly on a national scale."
Should Saint Mary's make their sixth straight NCAA Regional, they would play from May 18-20 at one of six locations across the country. Additionally, the NCAA Championships will be held from May 29-June 3 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
