9/8/2019 3:52:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Saint Mary's had their best offensive performance since 1999 as they scored six goals during the matchup against Wagner.
MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's unleashed an offensive onslaught on Sunday as they put up six goals for the first time since 1999 in a 6-1 victory over Wagner.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Saint Mary's took an early lead thanks to Kaytlin Brinkman's eighth minute score. The sophomore took a bouncing pass from Anna Parker's free kick and fired a rocket past the Wagner goalie from close range for her second tally of the year.
Saint Mary's doubled their lead in the 20th minute as Jaylen Crim got her head on a Jessica Ko corner kick and sneaked it into the net for her team-leading third goal of the season.
The Gaels broke the game open in the second half with four goals during the period. Kamryn Farro tallied the first of those goals in the 53rd minute off a throw in from Crim. The freshman's goal was her first goal of her collegiate career and she also led the team with four shots in the match.
With less than 30 minutes left in the contest, Sophie Santos and Nayeli Diaz each scored goals within minutes of each other to stretch the Gaels' lead to 5-1. Santos scored the fourth goal of the match off a through ball from Diaz and then Diaz followed suit with a goal of her own from 18 yards out after Kyllie Glock passed her the ball.
Paris Fox added the sixth and final goal of the game in the last few minutes after she collected the ball off a rebound from Isabella Santavicca to tap it in past the goal line. Saint Mary's fired off 24 shots during the matchup which is the most shots taken in a game so far this season for SMC.
Wagner scored their lone goal in the 28th minute when Le'La Allen struck a ball off a scrum in the Gaels' box that was ruled a good goal after a Saint Mary's defender blocked the shot just behind the goal line. The Seahawks took nine shots during regulation.
