Saint Mary’s Matoso Announced Final Stages of Fundraising and Planning
MORAGA, Calif. — With the new Baseball Player Development Center nearing completion, one additional major project remains. Mike Matoso, Saint Mary's College Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics, announced today the final fundraising for a seating project at the baseball complex.
The project also includes a major name change to the facility. The Br. Ronald Gallagher Stadium will include permanent stadium seating, a press box and an entrance into the complex. The naming of Br. Ronald Gallagher Stadium commemorates the former president of Saint Mary's from 2005-13 and his impact on the unprecedented success of Saint Mary's College Athletics.
"I am grateful to our gracious donors for their support to finish this project, and am honored to have my name associated with it," Br. Ronald Gallagher said. "Our student athletes and loyal fans will be the real beneficiaries for years to come."
Fans who are used to the current bleacher seating behind the home plate area will see major upgrades to the tune of 14 rows of built-in seating that amounts to 648 permanent stadium seats at the new complex. At the top of this structure will be a brand-new press box for the production crew. An open area at the top of the grandstand on the first base side will act as somewhat of a covered patio.
In addition to the new seating structure, the entrance to the baseball facility will be upgraded, with an archway that features three openings. A similar design will be implemented on the backside of the seating structure.
"I am honored to announce the completion of the Baseball Stadium project with the naming of Louis Guisto Field at Brother Ronald Gallagher Stadium. As President of Saint Mary's College, Brother Ron made many pivotal decisions within the department that has led to much of our continued success, including the location for the baseball stadium," Matoso said. "With the Baseball Player Development Center being completed we now focus on completing this project with a strong push of fundraising this coming spring."
Marilyn Bohl, a long-time resident of the Bay Area and a friend of Saint Mary's, has committed to match donations to the Br. Ronald Gallagher Stadium Fund, up to a total of $250,000. Thanks to a $25,000 gift and other generous donations matched by Marilyn, the project has an anticipated start date of summer 2020 and is expected to be completed before the start of the 2021 baseball season.
"Major enhancements to the baseball complex at Saint Mary's College have been completed. I am pleased to encourage funding of facilities to enhance the fan experience and to honor Br. Ronald Gallagher in doing so," Bohl said.

The beginning of the 2020 baseball season is sure to bring excitement around a program that has seen wide success in recent seasons. Last year, the Gaels went 35-22, including a spectacular 22-3 at Louis Guisto Field. Saint Mary's made a run in the 2019 WCC Tournament, going all the way to the championship game before falling to LMU in heartbreak fashion 4-2 in ten innings.
"The upgrades to the baseball facility is a clear indication of the strong support and commitment the Administration, Athletics Department, fan base and friends of the baseball program have here at Saint Mary's," Head Coach Greg Moore said.
The first home game of the 2020 season, against Utah, is on February 17, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. Head coach Greg Moore, his staff, and Gael players are working hard to achieve an exciting, successful 2020 baseball season.
