WTEN | Gaels Travel South to Face Long Beach State, CSU Fullerton

MORAGA, Calif. — The Saint Mary's women's tennis team (2-2) will look to continue their winning streak as they travel to southern California this weekend to take on Long Beach State on Saturday at 11 a.m. before facing off against Cal State Fullerton on Sunday at noon.

More information can be found on the Gaels' schedule page.

The Gaels are coming off back-to-back victories as they defeated Sacramento State and UC Davis last week for their first pair of wins of the season. Against the Hornets, SMC recorded three wins on singles courts along with two doubles victories to secure the 4-0 shutout. In a close contest against the Aggies, Saint Mary's prevailed with the 4-3 win following two three-set singles matches that were what the Gaels' needed to pull through.

Through both matchups, No. 19 Mariia Kozyreva was the lone Gael to pick up back-to-back victories in singles action. Doubles tandems Jordan Harris/Chloe Goyette and Kozyreva/Danielle McIntyre also picked up wins in their respective matches. Freshmen Lene Mari Hovda and Gabriela Tevez each collected their first collegiate wins against UC Davis.

LONG BEACH STATE
The Beach owns a 2-1 overall record so far this season as they are coming off a 4-1 victory over San Diego State last week for the second straight win. In the contest, Lalita Devarakonda claimed the first singles point and moved to 3-0 on the dual match season as she picked up a straight set win as the No. 6 seed. In doubles action, the No. 2 and No. 3 spots both claimed a 6-3 victory to seal the doubles point for Long Beach State.

CAL STATE FULLERTON
The Titans have not dropped a match so far this season as they are currently 5-0. In their most recent contest, Cal State Fullerton defeated Nevada in a 4-1 decision to improve their winning streak to five. During the match, CSUF claimed the doubles point following a close 7-5 win from duo Genevieve Zeidan and Eira Tobrand on Court 1 before picking up three wins in singles play to secure the victory. The Titans will take on San Diego State on Saturday prior to hosting Saint Mary's on Sunday.
