SB | McCormack Records Four Hits in Friday's Contests

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Saint Mary's played in two close games on Friday but were ultimately edged in both to move to 0-4 on the season. Julia McCormack went 4-6 on the day and had three runs batted in.

Game 1
California Baptist 9, Saint Mary's 7

Julia McCormack set the tone early in the contest for the Gaels as she nailed a homer to left center to bring home Indya Smith from second and give SMC a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. California Baptist would respond with two runs of their own off a two RBI single in the bottom of the first to tie up the game.

Alex Casas continued the Gaels' momentum in the second as she recorded a double to right field to advance Kenedi Lopes to third and bring home Nikki Alexander. Halle Sullivan immediately followed suit with a double of her own down the left field line to bring home both Casas and Lopes. To add to the excitement, McCormack tacked on her third RBI of the day in the fifth as she launched a triple to right center to bring Jayda Alaan home to take a 6-2 lead.

CBU managed to put up four runs in the fifth to tie up the game before SMC added another run in the sixth when Alaan hit a sacrifice bunt RBI to advance Sullivan to bring home Casas for their seventh score. The Lancers responded with three more runs of their own to steal the lead from the Gaels and didn't allow a run in the top of the seventh to secure the victory.

In the circle, freshman Kayla Scott made her collegiate debut and pitched five innings. Eryn McCoy pitched an inning in relief.

Sullivan went 2-for-3 during the contest while Casas and McCormack went 2-for-4. McCormack recorded three RBI's and Sullivan tallied two. Saint Mary's totaled nine hits during the contest while three other Gaels also picked up a hit throughout the game.

Game 2
Sacramento State 2, Saint Mary's 0

The Hornets (2-0) took the second game of the day in front of their home crowd with run-scoring singles in the fourth and sixth innings.

The Gaels totaled four hits on offense and were once again led by McCormack who went 2-for-2 with a walk. The senior is now batting .600 in the tournament and four of her six hits have gone for extra bases. Maddie Gallagher picked up her first hit as a Gael in the game with a pinch-hit double and Alexander collected a single at the top of the order.

Eileen Perez started in the circle for SMC and did well to avoid damage as she surrendered only two runs through 5.1 innings and danced around 10 Hornet hits. Perez struck out four and didn't allow a single walk in the start.

Danielle Sperry picked up the win for Sac State after going four innings and giving up just two hits. Three Hornets had multi-hit games including first baseman Alonda Meija who went 2-for-3 with a double.
