MTEN | Saint Mary's Sweeps Day 1 of Golden Gate

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Saint Mary's (6-4) had a great start to the Golden Gate Invitational on Friday as they picked up two wins over New Mexico State and Hawaii.

Against the Aggies, the Gaels dropped the doubles point in close sets, all 6-4 scores, but would bounce back by winning all four singles matches.

Damon Kesaris and James Watt each began singles play with 6-4, 6-4 wins over their opponents. Karlo Divkovic would add the team's third point with a 6-3, 6-2 win and freshman Felipe Rincon sealed the victory with a 6-3, 6-4 decision on court 3.

In the team's second dual of the day, Saint Mary's rallied once again in singles to take the win.

After dropping the doubles point, SMC grinded out three set wins on courts 4 through 6 to reverse the match's momentum and then deliver the finishing blow with Watt's 6-4, 6-3 win as the No. 2 seed to claim the match. Abishek Bastola and Matis Bot each came back after falling in their first set to win 7-5 in the middle set and eventually take the match in the final set.
