Silver Waves Media recently put out a list of the top-50 Influential Assistant Coaches at the NCAA DI level for Women's Basketball, and a familiar face has made the list. Associate Head Coach of Gaels Women's Basketball,
Allyson Fasnacht, has been named on this list full of veteran and up-and-coming coaches across the country, putting herself into elite company.
Â
This previous season was the ninth season with coach Fasnacht on the sidelines for the Gaels, with the first eight spent as an assistant coach before being promoted to associate head coach before the 2019-20 season. With Fasnacht playing a large role, the Gaels have enjoyed some of their best success in program history, including 20 or more wins in each of her first eight seasons on the coaching staff.
Â
Despite a down year for the Gaels in terms of record, they were all over the top of the WCC and NCAA in terms of offensive performance. The Gaels were ranked first in the Westo Coast Conference in three-pointers made and three throw percentage, while setting the Saint Mary's program record for most threes attempted (776) and made (287) in a season. The Gaels received some national attention for their three-point shooting, as their metrics ranked in the top-ten in threes made (8
th), three-pointers per game (8
th), and 13
th in overall 3FG% (37%).
Â
"Allyson brings a unique cohesiveness to our women's basketball program. She does a superior job of keeping the players, coaches, trainers, and fans connected. She is one of the most loyal and trustworthy people I know."
Â
A native of Salem, Virginia, Fasnacht has helped several Gaels reach new heights during her tenure on the coaching staff. 29 student-athletes that she has coaches have earned All-West Coast Conference honors, while the team's winning percentage sits at .613 (168-106) across nine seasons.
