Gaels Finish Semester With Record GPA, APR Numbers

MORAGA, Calif. — With the recent submission of spring semester final grades, Saint Mary's College Athletics is delighted to announce that Gael student-athletes have accomplished a record-setting year in their academic work. Along with their GPA numbers, the department reported record APR scores this past year as well.

The Gaels posted a 3.33 cumulative GPA this term. Saint Mary's had 15 of the 16 teams with at least a 3.00 GPA or higher including women's tennis, who recorded an incredible 3.76 GPA this spring, and men's tennis, who tallied a department-best 3.58 GPA over the course of the year.

On the APR side, 11 programs had a perfect 1000 single-year APR score. Men's basketball and women's cross country were also nationally recognized for their APR scores.

"This is a tremendous accomplishment by our student-athletes and a testament to their hard work," Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Mike Matoso said. "Not only do our teams routinely finish at the top of their conference standings, they also perform just as well in the classroom. Saint Mary's is dedicated to a well-rounded student-athlete experience and this accomplishment demonstrates that our student-athletes are making the most of their time here."

Among the senior class, 28-percent graduated with honors including six cum laude, six magna cum laude, and four summa cum laude recipients. Men's tennis student-athlete Matis Bot (Economics) and men's soccer's Erik Lyons (Anthropology) were also selected as the top seniors in their respective departments.

As announced previously, 98 student-athletes were set to be honored at the President's Scholar-Athlete Luncheon this spring. The luncheon honors student-athletes who are sophomores, juniors, and seniors and carry a 3.25 cumulative GPA or higher.
