MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's golf will become the first Gaels team to return to competition this fall after recently being cleared by the West Coast Conference to do so. The Gaels have three tournaments lined up for this semester with all three remaining in-state.
Saint Mary's begins their schedule at the Pasadera Collegiate Invitational from Oct. 5-6 which will be hosted at The Club at Pasadera in Monterey. The Jack Nicklaus designed course is a par 71 and plays 6,713 yards from the tips.
Two weeks later, head coach Scott Hardy will take his team down to Lompoc for the La Purisima College Invite held at La Purisima Golf Course. The course has hosted multiple qualifying rounds for the US Open and PGA Tour over the years and was named one of the top-50 most difficult golf courses in America by Golf Digest. La Purisima is a 7,105 yard par 72 and features a 609 yard par 5 on it's 12th hole.
Rounding out the tentative fall schedule, Saint Mary's will take another trip south to compete at The Rustic Collegiate Classic in Moorpark. The tournament will be held at Rustic Canyon Golf Course from Nov. 5-6. The course is laid out as a 7,044 yard par 72 and is "dotted with sagebrush, cactus, waves of brome and stipa grass highlighted by a few picturesque oaks."
Saint Mary's will be seeking another trip to the NCAA Regionals this spring after making the previous five. The team was positioned to make their sixth consecutive trip to the tournament this past spring before the event was cancelled due to the coronavirus.
The golf program will be the first Saint Mary's sports team participating in an NCAA sanctioned event since the middle of March.
