MTEN | Reckow Earns Two Wins in Season Opener vs. Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. — Saint Mary's (0-1) took the court for the first time in 313 days due to the COVID-19 layoff and played their season opener against California on Monday. The Golden Bears (1-0) ended up getting the 5-2 win on their home court.
Cal took two of the three doubles matches to grab the doubles point but Saint Mary's did grab a big win on Court 1 as the tandem of James Watt/Boris Reckow took down No. 36 Paul Barretto/Can Kaya with a 6-4 score.
The Gaels earned singles wins on courts 5 and 6 thanks to solid play from Matis Bot and Reckow. The fifth-year Bot came from behind after dropping his first set to take the match with 6-3, 6-0 ensuing sets. Reckow earned his second win of the day in straight sets as he overpowered Thomas Wright 7-6(2), 6-2.
SMC was without Damon Kesaris on Monday. Kesaris is currently ranked No. 22 in singles by the ITA.
Saint Mary's next match comes against Southern California on Friday, Feb. 5. The contest will take place on the Trojans' campus and a game time is not yet set.
