MORAGA, Calif. — Gaels fans know Albert Ahedo from his years as a volunteer assistant coach for Saint Mary's Volleyball. Now, the recent Saint Mary's graduate sheds the volunteer tag and is joining the Saint Mary's staff as an assistant coach, joining Rob Browning and Mandy Bible on the team's coaching staff.
"Working with Albert has been fantastic," Browning said about Ahedo. "He has a great work ethic, a wonderful rapport with every member of our team, and a good understanding of what it truly means to 'coach' – that is so much more than just X's and O's. We couldn't be happier to continue with Albert in our family, now as a full-time assistant."
Working as a volunteer assistant for Saint Mary's for nearly three years while studying, Ahedo worked closely with passers and defenders, and later on, technical development with attackers and blockers. During games, Ahedo was in charge of DataVolley and technical analytics while also presenting coaches with scouting reports. Concurrent to his volunteer work at Saint Mary's, Ahedo was the head junior varsity and freshman boys head coach at Campolindo High School in Moraga for the 2019 season, where the team won the 2019 league championship.
"Saint Mary's isn't just a place of work - it's home," said Ahedo. "I truly love relationships that I have created here and will continue to create here. I would like to thank Rob for this opportunity and thank all the people that have supported me throughout my coaching and Lasallian educational journey. Can't wait to get the season started and play our first match."
Ahedo is a 2020 graduate of Saint Mary's College with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology - Exercise Science.
The Gaels begin their 2021 Spring Season on Tuesday, January 26 as they travel to LMU to take on the Lions. First-serve is scheduled for 6:00 pm before the finale of the back-to-back on Wednesday, January 27 at 3:00 pm.
