PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Gaels continue to rack up wins in both the singles and doubles brackets at the ITA Northwest Regionals hosted by Stanford.
Four-straight wins for No. 3
Mariia Kozyreva has her in the quarterfinals as the field of 128 players in the Women's Open Singles bracket is down to 16. Kozyreva defeated Laura Bente of Cal Poly 6-4, 6-3 and Anna Geller of Stanford 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 on day one. The fifth-year senior then took down Tara Chilton of Washington 6-0, 6-3 and No. 14 Uxia Martinez Moral of Oregon 6-3, 6-4 in the next two rounds. She'll play at 11:00 a.m. Monday against No. 9 Sarah-Maude Fortin of Washington in the quarterfinals.
The doubles teams that advanced out of day one continued their run on Sunday with impressive wins over Cal and Oregon. The tandem of Kozyreva and
Jocelyn Massey defeated Oregon's Ares Teixido Garcia and Lillian Mould 6-1. They'll take on the No. 1 team of Angelica Blake and Connie Ma of Stanford on Monday with the time to be determined due to Kozyreva's scheduled singles match.
The team of
Jordan Harris and
Julia Ronney beat Makenna Thiel and Hannah Viller Moeller of Cal 6-2. They'll play Allison Mulville and Sophie Luescher of Oregon on Monday at 10:00 a.m.
