MBB | Three Sign with Gaels For Next Season

MORAGA, Calif. – Saint Mary's men's basketball head coach Randy Bennett announced the signing of three future Gaels to a National Letter of Intent. The incoming class signed during the early signing period the first week of November, and will be on campus this upcoming summer to begin their SMC careers.

"This group of incoming student-athletes is a special bunch. They all have high character and are extremely strong academically," Bennett said. "This class will have a major impact not only on the court but across the entire college campus as well."

Here is a breakdown of the three newcomers for next year in alphabetical order:

Joshua Jefferson
6-8 | Forward | Las Vegas, Nev. (Liberty HS)

Jefferson attends Liberty High School in Las Vegas where he has been a standout on one of the strongest programs in the Nevada area. Jefferson has a powerful frame, a great scoring touch and is a strong rebounder. His sophomore year he averaged 14 points and nine rebounds per game.

"Josh is a strong all-around player. He has great basketball knowledge, can score inside and out and has developed into an aggressive rebounder," Bennett said. "His size and athleticism will help him be an impact player at this level."

Aidan Mahaney
6-3 | Guard | Lafayette, Calif. (Campolindo HS)

Mahaney plays locally at Campolindo High School, where he has helped the program win a NorCal Championship and a State Championship in the last couple of years. Mahaney comes to Moraga highly ranked by multiple recruiting sites as one of the best guards on the West Coast. His sophomore season, he averaged 19.4 points per game and shot 44-percent from 3-point range.

"Aidan is a tremendous leader on and off the court. He has proven he can win at a high level and brings that winning mentality into the program," Bennett said. "He is highly skilled at the guard position and can pass and score in a variety of ways."

Harry Wessels
7-1 | Center | Boddington, Australia (Centre of Excellence)

Wessels continues the Gaels' pipeline down under as he comes to Moraga from the Centre of Excellence at the Australian Institute of Sport. Wessels is currently on the Australian Under 19 National Team, and helped the Emus qualify for the FIBA World Games.

"Harry has been a rising big man in Australia the past couple of years. Each season he continues to improve his overall skill level," Bennett said. "He has great upside, who is athletic and has the ability to help this program compete at a high level."

Saint Mary's returns to game action Monday, Nov. 22 when they face Notre Dame in the first game of the Maui Invitational played in Las Vegas at 8:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
