LAST TIME OUT
The Saint Mary's Women's Soccer Team couldn't find the back of the net in a 1-0 loss to Gonzaga Saturday afternoon at Saint Mary's Stadium, despite outshooting the Zags 6-4.

The Gaels had quite a few scoring chances in a crisp, well-played game between the two teams but would either have some shots miss the target or were a bit indecisive on whether to pass or shoot as they looked to set up the optimal scoring chance.

ABOUT SAN DIEGO
The Toreros are a very young team with just one senior on the roster. They've used a goalkeeper tandem of Ellyn Casto and Judith Sorribes, with the latter recording a shutout in San Diegos most recent match, a 0-0 tie with Pacific.

The Gaels are 11-18 all time against San Diego, but won last season's match up 2-1 on March 13, 2021

ABOUT SANTA CLARA

No. 25 Santa Clara women's soccer was picked to win their 12th league title this year in a poll of the conference's 10 head coaches. The Broncos also had a league-best four named to the Preseason All-WCC Team, as Kelsey Turnbow, Alex Loera, Izzy D'Aquila, and Sally Menti were the four Broncos honored on the preseason team.

Turnbow, the College Cup Offensive Most Outstanding Player, led Santa Clara with 10 goals and 24 points. She was a Third Team All-American and Top Drawer Soccer's Player of the Year. She was also a First-Team All-WCC pick for the fourth season in a row.

Loera was Second Team All-America for the 2020 season while taking home her second consecutive West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year award. She was also the College Cup Defensive Most Outstanding Player. She took home her third First Team All-WCC nod last season.

D'Aquila, who converted the clinching penalty kick against top-seeded Florida State, scored eight goals last season and added three assists while being named First Team All-West Region. She was First Team All-WCC a season ago.

Menti, the WCC Freshman of the Year, was Second Team All-WCC after leading the team with six assists and adding two goals, including the lone tally in the national quarterfinals against Clemson.

The Gaels are 3-29-4 all time against the Broncos.
