SAN DIEGO - Saint Mary's Women's Tennis player
Mariia Kozyreva notched another victory on day two of the ITA National Fall Championships defeating No. 1 seed Abigail Forbes of UCLA, 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 in round two of the Women's Open Singles.
After knocking out the No. 1 seed in a three-set battle, the fifth-year Gael had to take on another Pac 12 player in No. 5 seed Eryn Cayetano of USC. The junior for the Trojans had mowed her way through opponents from Stanford and FSU to reach the quarterfinals and Kozyreva wasn't able to keep the run going in a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Cayetano.
Nonetheless, it's two more impressive wins for Kozyreva after the at-large bid to the National Fall Championships featuring 32 of the top players in the country in each bracket.
