WTEN | Gaels Sweep Hornets for First Win of Season

MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's (1-2) picked up their first win of the season in dominant fashion on Friday as they took down Sacramento State, 7-0. 

The Gaels earned the doubles point with two quick wins on courts 2 and 3. Jocelyn Massey and Aubane Ville got the ball rolling for SMC with a 6-2 win in the No. 3 doubles slot and it didn't take much longer for the tandem of Mariia Kozyreva and Gabriela Tevez to win 6-3 as the team's No. 2 tandem. 

Saint Mary's also swept the Hornets (0-3) in singles action and took five of the six matches in straight sets. Massey had a near perfect match against the 2-seed Megan Tagaloa with a 6-1, 6-0 decision. Tevez posted a similarly dominant score in her match on court 6 as she won 6-1, 6-1. 

Ville blanked her opponent in the first set as the Gaels' No. 5 singles player and would go on to take the second set 6-4. Kozyreva, who is currently ranked No. 17 in the country by the ITA, posted the same 6-0, 6-4 score in her match on court 1. 

3-seed Jordan Harris took down Sac State's Tsveti Yotova 6-2, 6-3 and Liesl Pieters completed the sweep with a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-1, 10-4 win on court 4. 

The Gaels get back on the court in exactly one week when they face No. 6 Stanford on the road. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
