LOS ANGELES — Saint Mary's faced their second straight ranked Pac-12 opponent on Saturday in No. 17 USC and lost by a 4-0 score to the Women of Troy. The Gaels opened their season against No. 19 California back in January.
USC claimed the doubles point with wins on courts 1 and 3. The Gaels' top tandem of Mariia Kozyreva and Danielle McIntyre faced a tall task of squaring off with the No. 12 duo in the nation in Eryn Cayetano and Angela Kulikov on court 1.
The Women of Troy took three straight singles matches on courts 3, 4, and 5 to claim the match. Gabriela Tevez won her first set against Payton Saca on court 6 but play was suspended before she could conclude her match. Kozyreva was tied up in a second set tiebreaker against the No. 48 ranked Cayetano but her match was also cut short.
Saint Mary's will host Sacramento State on Feb. 12 in their home opener. First serve is currently scheduled for 2 p.m.
