GOLF | Hathcoat Tied For First After One Round at The Goodwin

STANFORD, Calif. — Blake Hathcoat continued his terrific run of golf in 2021 as the senior is tied for first out of 146 competitors after one round at The Goodwin. As a team, the Gaels are in 10th out of 28 schools and are in prime position to continue moving up the leaderboard tomorrow with a 5-over score.

THE LEADERBOARD
Hathcoat dazzled in the opening round by shooting 7-under to tie with Nevada's Sam Harned for the best score of the day. The senior did not shoot a single bogey on Thursday and was 4-under on the back 9 to finish strong.

Michael Slesinski was Saint Mary's second best golfer in the first round and finished 1-over. He sits at t-37th in the field. Rounding out the Gaels' lineup was Evan Peterson at 5-over, Ethan Farnam at 6-over, and Ethan Ashbrook at 8-over.

Saint Mary's did well to finish the round on a high note as three Gaels had birdies on the 18th hole.

The host school Stanford leads the team leaderboard after 18 holes at 5-under. SMC finished ahead of three top-50 programs including No. 19 SMU (8-over), No. 39 Georgia Tech (10-over), and No. 45 TCU (14-over).

FIRST ROUND HIGHLIGHTS

Saint Mary's shot 9-under on par 5's in the first round, fourth best in the tourney.
The Gaels had three eagles on the day, most of any team. Hathcoat (7th hole), Farnam (7th) and Slesinski (1st) posted the eagles.
Hathcoat tied for first in the field on par 4's with a 4-under total on such holes.
Hathcoat had back-to-back birdies on holes 11 and 12.

UP NEXT: DAY 2
The second round of The Goodwin tees off tomorrow morning. The Gaels are the last group to tee off and begin at 1:20 p.m.
