SB | Gaels Fall On Road to Mustangs

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Saint Mary's (6-8) couldn't contain the bats of Cal Poly's lineup on Saturday as they dropped both ends of the weekend's doubleheader.

GAME 1 RECAP
Cal Poly 9, Saint Mary's 1 (6 inn.)

A pair of RBI singles in the bottom of the second for the Mustangs (2-2) would give them a 4-0 lead they would never relinquish. The Gaels cut down the deficit to just one in the fifth when Julia McCormack hit a sacrifice fly to right field and Bry Waters scored.

Cal Poly scored four more runs in the bottom of the fourth to pad their lead.

The Gaels picked up three hits in the contest. Marissa Montelongo and freshman catcher Angelina Franco both hit singles in the fourth and fifth inning. Senior Jayda Alaan hit a double to right-center in the top of the sixth.

Sophomore pitcher Marissa Woosley pitched for 2.1 relief innings and struck out three Mustangs in the fourth and fifth innings.

GAME 2 RECAP
Cal Poly 6, Saint Mary's 4

Three early RBI singles for the Mustangs would give them a 4-0 lead after three innings. The Gaels responded with two runs in the following frame however as Alex Casas knocked in a run with an RBI fielder's choice and then Angelina Franco scored a few batters later on a throwing error by CP's third baseman.

Cal Poly tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to move ahead 6-2 before Hannah Chew got a run back with an RBI single in the fifth to score Jayda Alaan

Cormack made things interesting with a solo jack in the top of the seventh to pull Saint Mary's within two with two outs but a groundout would end the game for SMC two batters later.

The Gaels recorded eight hits with three going for extra bases. Alaan had a double and Casas picked up a triple in the loss. Waters and Montelongo also successfully swiped bags in the contest.
