SB | Saint Mary's Wraps Up Weekend Series with Cal Poly

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Saint Mary's (6-9) dropped their final contest of their three-game series with Cal Poly (4-2) with an 11-2 score on Sunday.

The Gaels got on the board first after two scoreless innings as Jayda Alaan knocked a single to center field to plate Julia McCormack with two outs in the third. The Mustangs answered right back however with four runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead.

Indya Smith drove in the Gaels' second run with a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth to make it a 4-2 game. SMC still had a runner on third and two outs after the flyout but Cal Poly's pitcher Bailey Doherty managed to strikeout the next batter to prevent any more Gaels from scoring.

In the bottom of the frame, a bases-loaded triple followed up with an RBI single would stretch the Mustangs' lead to 8-2 after four. In the sixth, Hailey Prahm delivered a 3-run homer with two outs to make it an 11-2 game and enact the mercy rule.

Saint Mary's totaled four hits in the contest with Alex Casas leading the way with two singles. Defending WCC Player of the Week Hannah Chew also reached base safely twice with two walks.
