WTEN | Gaels Win Big in Season Finale Against Pilots

PORTLAND — Saint Mary's ended their regular season on a high note as they dominated the Pilots in Portland by a 6-1 score. The Gaels finished the year with a 4-4 record in West Coast Conference matches and 6-8 overall.
SMC earned the doubles point with two big wins on Courts 1 and 3. Jordan Harris and Lene Mari Hovda teamed up to take down their opponents 6-2 before Mariia Kozyreva and Danielle McIntyre cruised to a 6-1 win over Portland's top tandem of Iva Zelic and Emily Soares.
In singles, Saint Mary's would go on to win the first five matches to claim the contest. Harris was the first Gael to finish with a straight set win on Court 3 and was followed soon after by Kozyreva who took down her opponent 6-3, 7-6(4) on Court 1.
Hovda clinched the win for SMC in the 2-spot by defeating Neli Sunjic by a final of 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-1. McIntyre would also pick up her second win of the day by beating Portland's No. 5 singles player in a tiebreaker as did Gabriela Tevez in SMC's 4-slot.
Portland (3-12, 1-6 WCC) won the final singles match but it came in a close tiebreaker.
