HENDERSON, Nev. — Saint Mary's is tied for eighth place in the West Coast Conference Championship at Reflection Bay Golf Club after one round of play.
THE LEADERBOARD
SMC is tied alongside Pacific in the nine team competition at 3-over. Three Gaels shot even to lead the team in the first round: Blake Hathcoat, Ethan Ashbrook, and Michael Slesinski. Ethan Farnam was 3-over while Evan Peterson rounded out the team's scores at 7-over.
Saint Mary's will have some work to do to catch the day's leader, No. 8 Pepperdine. The Waves shot 19-under to set a conference tournament record and are eight strokes ahead of the current runner-up, BYU.
San Francisco's Tim Widing and Loyola Marymount's Gavin Cohen both co-lead the field at 6-under. 26 of the 45 competitors in the event shot even or lower on Thursday.

- Ashbrook had back-to-back birdies on holes 10 and 11.
- Farnam led the team with four birdies across the first 18 holes.
- Saint Mary's was 2-under before making the turn.
