PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Four Gaels competed in pairs at the Northern California Golf Association's 54th Annual Four-Ball Championship over the weekend and had great success with a first and third place finish out of 88 tandems. 

The tournament was played at Spyglass Hill Golf Course in Pebble Beach from Friday to Sunday with one round per day. The best-ball format counted the lowest score on each hole between the pair to create one combined team score. 

Ethan Ashbrook and Ethan Farnam claimed first place at the event with a combined score of 19-under across three rounds. The pair of Ethans shot 2-under in the first round, 6-under in the second, and then caught fire for an 11-under total on the final day to win the tournament by five strokes. 

In the last round, Ashbrook and Farnam were at 4-under at the turn and would go on to birdie seven of the final nine holes. Farnam in particular was scorching as he scored birdies on six holes on the back nine. Ashbrook was incredibly steady as well as he didn't record a single bogey during the round and completed the day 6-under. 

Ashbrook was the Gaels' top performer at the West Coast Conference Championships this season where he finished tied for third. 

Blake Hathcoat and Michael Slesinski also competed in the tournament and finished third at 11-under. The senior tandem shot 4-under on Friday, 5-under on Saturday, and 2-under in the last round. The only non-Saint Mary's grouping to finish ahead of Hathcoat and Slesinski was San Francisco's pair of Tim Widing and Matthew Anderson (14-under). 

Hathcoat's collegiate career is not yet over as he'll be competing in the NCAA Regionals held in Albuquerque, New Mexico next weekend as an individual. The tournament begins on May 17 and concludes on May 19.
