GOLF | Hathcoat Advances To US Open Final Qualifying Round

MADERA, Calif. — Just a day after finishing third at the 54th Annual Four-Ball Championship, Blake Hathcoat competed at the US Open local qualifying event held at Dragonfly Golf Club yesterday and made the cut to advance to the next round.

Hathcoat shot 5-under in the single-round qualifier to make the cut as one of five individuals moving forward out of a field of 84. The Gaels' senior had five birdies on the front nine and then parred every hole after the turn. Hathcoat didn't record a single bogey and finished two strokes back of the medalist Alex Lee from Fresno State.

A total of 8,680 golfers nationwide vied for just 500 spots at local qualifiers this year. Those 500 will now compete at 12 sites across the country with only a handful of the top finishers granted a spot in the 2021 US Open. The US Open takes place this year at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego.

The final qualifying event takes place on either May 24 or June 7 depending on the location. The complete list of locations can be found by clicking here
