LAST TIME OUT
Saint Mary's lost two out of three to the San Francisco Dons over the weekend in conference play, but rebounded to win the series finale on Monday in non-conference fashion. The Gaels used a big five-run fifth inning to give themselves enough of a cushion to hang on and beat the Dons 5-4. In that inning, the Gaels put the first six runners of the inning on base, including RBI hits from
Kyle Velazquez,
Justin Banks, and
Blake Mann. Seven Gaels pitchers combined for the win, with
Michael Hobbs picking up his sixth save of the season.

ABOUT THE LIONS
In the final WCC series of the year, Saint Mary's will look to reverse the historical trend of LMU success against the Gaels. This year's LMU team has struggled in conference play, thanks in large part to a lack of power on offense, and depth in the pitching staff. Just three pitchers for LMU have ERAs below 4.97, and the team is last in the WCC with 14 home runs (5 have come from Alec Cargin). The Lions have won their last two WCC series, however, scoring series wins over Pepperdine and Santa Clara. They played their final non-conference game on Tuesday night, losing to UCLA 9-8, despite trailing 6-0 early.
Â
PREVIOUS MEETING
These teams have not met since the 2019 season, when the Gaels and Lions played twice in the WCC Tournament. Saint Mary's lost both games to LMU, including the championship game 4-2 in 10 innings, where the Gaels came just one inning shy of their second-ever WCC championship title. The last regular season meeting between these teams was also in 2019, where the Gaels won two out of three in Moraga on April 18-20.
