ALBUQUERQUE — Blake Hathcoat wrapped the 2021 NCAA Regionals at University of New Mexico Golf Course on Wednesday with an even par round on Wednesday. The senior was competing in the postseason tournament as an individual and it was his third career trip to Regionals.
Hathcoat shot an even 72 in the final round to conclude the three-round event at 4-under with round scores of 72-68-72. His third round total matched his score from the first day and helped him finish t-15th in the 75-man event.
The Gael began his day with a birdie on the first hole and logged another on hole 9 to sit at 1-under at the turn. Hathcoat scored another bird on the 579-yard par 5 14th to move to 2-under but closed out the round with two bogeys to return to even.
Hathcoat dominated par 5's in the event with a 9-under total on such holes which tied him for sixth best in the tourney. He also performed well on par 4's and was towards the top of the leaderboard in the category at 2-over. The course featured three par 4's that exceeded 500 yards and totaled over 7,500 yards in length across the 18 holes.
Among the five individuals participating in the Regional, Hathcoat was the top finisher of the grouping. He will not be moving on to the NCAA Championship however as South Carolina's Ryan Hall won medalist honors and his team did not finish among the top-5. Hall shot 11-under in the tournament to win the event outright.
