SB | SMC Prepares For Senior Day This Weekend Against San Diego

MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's will host their final home series of the season this weekend with a three-game set against San Diego. Prior to the contest on Sunday, the Gaels will honor their five graduating seniors as part of Senior Day festivities.

The Gaels and Toreros will take the field on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at noon with the second game following approximately 30 minutes later. The series concludes on Sunday with an 11 a.m. first pitch for Senior Day. Links for live stats and live streams can be found on the team's schedule page.

Saint Mary's is 11-20 this year and 2-4 in conference play. The team's last series against Pacific was cancelled due to COVID-19 complications within the Tigers' program but the weekend prior, SMC took two of three from Santa Clara. The Gaels have fared much better at home this season than on the road with a 7-9 record.

San Diego is 11-28 this year and 3-9 against WCC opponents. The Toreros have been in a slump of late as they've dropped 10 of their last 11 contests and are 1-13 away from home. USD's pitching staff has thrown well this year as they hold a collective 3.17 ERA and have tossed four shutouts. The offense however is averaging just two runs per game and have not scored more than three times in the past 11 contests.

SMC has won three of the last four contests against San Diego dating back to 2018 although all four games have been decided by two or fewer runs.

Sofia Earle will look to lead the Gaels in the circle once again after a successful month of April. The junior posted a sub-2 ERA last month and now owns a team-best 2.91 ERA across 91.1 frames. Her 102 strikeouts ranks second in the conference as well.

Indya Smith has been a force on offense this season with a team-high .344 batting average. The sophomore went 5-for-8 at the plate in the Gaels' recent series against Santa Clara.
