MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's Volleyball did not lose a player off their roster due to graduation, but they are making some additions to their team for the upcoming indoor season. Just announced by their coaching staff, the Gaels welcome Ashley Reed as their newest recruit for the 2021 season.
Â
Ashley Reed comes to Saint Mary's via Mountain View High School, where she graduated here in 2021. Not only was she a volleyball star at Mountain View, but she excelled in track as well, where she lettered once in addition to her four years of varsity volleyball. She stands at 5'10" as an outside hitter, and was stellar at the high school level, earning All-Region honors a pair of times. The Toros were a top-tier school with Reed on the roster, becoming champions of the region in 2019 and 2020. On the club side, Reed helped Club Blue win the Gold Division Championship in 2019.
Â
Ashley is one of seven children in the Reed family, and knows a thing or two about being with a tight-knit family. "I am looking forward to playing for a team with such a strong culture and high standards on and off the court," Reed mentioned.
Â
"We are extremely fortunate to have Ashley joining our volleyball family at Saint Mary's," said head coach
Rob Browning. "It's rare to get outstanding recruits this late in the recruiting process, but with Ashley, we've done it! Ashley's character, personality, work ethic, skill level and academic excellence are a perfect fit. Our team will be better with Ashley on it."
Â
The Gaels will return to action in late August with non-conference play, before the WCC season begins in late September. A tentative schedule has not been announced, but will be released along with information about fans safely returning to University Credit Union Pavilion on smcgaels.com.
