STOCKTON, Calif. — A quartet of Gaels traveled to Stockton on Saturday for the first day of the Pacific Fall Invite, with three Saint Mary's players reaching the Semi-Finals. The Final, which will take place on Sunday, will feature at least one Gael.Â
It was the first chance for Saint Mary's to ply their trade so far this season competing against players from University of the Pacific and CSU Stanislaus, with freshmen
Stefanie Silva and
Olivia Rook getting their first collegiate experience alongside teammates
Jocelyn Massey and
Gabriela Tevez. The quartet comfortably made it out of the Round of 16, all defeating their opponents in two sets.Â
Rook pushed her opponent in the quarter-finals, but bowed out after a tough deciding third set. Massey's quarter-final was also sent to a third set after she won the first 6-2 and dropped the second 5-7. However a 10-8 victory in the third saw her join her teammates in the semi-final. Both Silva and Tevez impressed in their matches progressing after two sets, with Silva finishing her match 6-3, 6-1 and Tevez 7-5, 6-2.Â
Tomorrow's final is guaranteed to have at least one Saint Mary's player, with Silva and Massey meeting in one semi final and while Tevez will face UOP's Zoe Clydesdale-Eberle in the other. The first serve on Sunday will be at 10 AM before the final at 1PM. Â
