STOCKON, Calif. — Saint Mary's ended their first meet of the season with a finals victory as
Jocelyn Massey claimed the singles win as well as the doubles with partner
Gabriela Tevez at the Pacific Fall Invite.
At least one Gael was guaranteed to be in the singles final after a good showing on the first day saw three of the four Saint Mary's players progress to the semi-finals. In the first semi-final, it was an all-Gael affair with Massey facing off with teammate
Stefanie Silva with the sophomore winning in two sets over the freshman (6-1, 6-3). Tevez bowed out of the competition in the second semi-final, falling to UOP's Zoe Clydesdale-Eberle in two sets (4-6, 2-6).Â
In the final, Massey was just edged out in the first set, with Clydesdale-Eberle taking it 7-5. But a dominating second set saw Massey fight back to win 6-2 before taking the deciding third set. It was a double victory day for Massey, who also linked up with Tevez in the doubles final as the pair took down UOP's Clydesdale-Eberle and Cindy Ung 8-5.Â
