Kayla Scott Named Bay Alarm Student-Athlete of the Week
2/14/2022 1:36:00 PM | General, Softball
MORAGA, Calif. — After enjoying great success to begin the 2022 season in the circle, Saint Mary's Softball pitcher Kayla Scott has been named this week's Bay Alarm Student-Athlete of the Week. She is the first softball player to win the award this season, and does so in her first week of eligibility (first week of the season).
Scott was a star in the circle for SMC this week, allowing just one earned run in 12 innings. She played a pivotal role in Sunday's win, tossing six innings of relief with no earned runs coming across in the win. On Sunday alone, she threw 9.1 innings without an earned run, while striking out 9 (12 on the weekend in 12 innings). Her ERA of 0.58 is the best among Saint Mary's pitchers just one weekend into the season, and her 12.0 strikeout to walk ratio is also best on the staff.
Scott picks up this weekly award from Saint Mary's for the first time in her career, and joins Indya Smith as active Gaels who won the award after the first week of the season (Smith did so to begin 2021).
The Gaels were able to secure two extra inning wins over the weekend, and will look for more wins this upcoming week at the La Jolla Invitational, hosted by UC San Diego. The Gaels will once again play five games across three days, beginning with games against Utah and UC San Diego on Friday, February 18, starting at 11:00 am. The Gaels will see Utah and UC San Diego twice, with a game against Sacramento State in between.
