SAN MATEO, Calif. — After capping off the regular season with their second-ever win over the No. 1 ranked team in the country, Saint Mary's Men's Basketball has earned another weekly award from the West Coast Conference. Logan Johnson has been named the WCC's Player of the Week for the second time this season, giving the Gaels six WCC Player of the Week awards, the most in the conference this year.
Johnson helped lead Saint Mary's to one of the biggest wins in program history on Saturday night as the Gaels capped off an undefeated season at home (the first in program history) and a 2-0 week with a 67-57 win over No. 1 Gonzaga. For the week, Johnson averaged 12 points per game, and scored 14 and 10 points in both wins. He shot 45% from the field and was 2-5 from beyond the arc. He also grabbed eight rebounds against Gonzaga, averaged five board per week, and had three assists in each game. He also recorded a highlight reel dunk against Gonzaga that sent a spark throughout University Credit Union Pavilion.
This is the second time Johnson has won the award (Jan. 3), making him the first Gael since Jordan Ford during the 2019-20 season to win the award multiple times in a week. The last time the Gaels collected a total of six Player of the Week wins in the WCC came during the 2017-18 season when Jock Landale won the award five times and Emmett Naar snagged it once.
The Gaels moved up to No. 19 in the AP Top-25, a four-spot jump from their previous designation, and are now No. (INSERT) in the Coaches Poll. SMC will not play again until Monday, March 7 in the semifinals of the WCC Tournament at The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
