MORAGA, Calif. - Saint Mary's Women's Basketball's Taycee Wedin has been named the Bay Alarm Student Athlete of the Week after taking sole possession of the career three-point record in program history.
The senior's first three pointer last Thursday night at home against Santa Clara broke a tie of 268 threes made with former Gael Jontelle Smith (2005-10). Wedin tied the program's career record for threes with 1:13 left in a road game at LMU. She surpassed the program record with just over a minute to go in the first quarter at home against Santa Clara to put the Gaels up 21-16 in a 78-73 win over the Broncos where Wedin went 4 of 8 from behind the arc.
The WCC record for three pointers made in a career of 298 is also in range for Wedin, as she is currently second all time in West Coast Conference history at 273 three pointers made after going 1 for 2 from downtown vs. University of the Pacific on Saturday.
Earlier this season the Milwaukie, Ore. native became the 25th player in program history to score 1,000 points in her career. Wedin is already the Gaels record holder for three pointers made in a season (104) and this is her second Bay Alarm Student Athlete of the Week Award this season.
