LAST TIME OUT
The Gaels were blazing fast in their first meet of the season, where they opened 2022 at the West Coast Opener in Hayward. The Gaels posted multiple school records, several personal-bests, and even won a few events along the way. Up at the top were those who ran the 3k on the women's side, where four Gaels finished inside the top-six, including race winner Rayna Stanziano and her SMC-record time of 9:28.19. Sylvia Ingram ran a 9:46.92, which historically would qualify her for the USA Track and Field U20 championships.
On the men's side, Chandler Maciel etched his name in the record book right out of the chute in the 3k, with the fourth-fastest mark in Saint Mary's history. He came in third overall in the race with a time of 8:25.20, pacing the men and finishing within six seconds of a win. Five Gaels ran in the 3k, and they all set personal bests, finishing the race in less than nine minutes.
BEEN A MINUTE
It's been a while since Saint Mary's Track has competed at the Aggie Open, with their last appearance in this event coming during the 2018 season. In that year's Aggie Open, the Gaels only ran a few individuals, with the rest of the squad competing at the Occidental Distance Carnival. Grace DeLeon ran the 1500m for the women, while Tyler Gershman, Cole Snyder, and Jake Echsner competed in various events for the men.
