LAST TIME OUT
The women's team last competed at the South Bay Twilight Race, beating LMU 25-30. Competing in the 6K, the LMU Lions took the 3-lap race out quickly, but the Gaels played the strategy game, willing to wait until later in the race to make a move.
Head Coach Marty Kinsey said the team executed their race strategy perfectly. "LMU took it out really fast, but by the third lap, the Gaels began to close it in."
The Gaels, led by a trio of runners in Sylvia Ingram, Klara Frih, and Emily Field dominated the final stretch of the race. Saint Mary's Sylvia Ingram, who took the lead late in the final lap, claimed 2nd with a time of 22:38.1, with her teammates, Frih and Field, finishing close behind her in 3rd and 4th with times of 22:48.1 and 22:49.5 respectively.
Saint Mary's had two other runners in the top 10, with Anna Ranieri coming in 7th place in a time of 23:03.9, and Sofia Cueves finishing 9th in 23:30.0. Senior Dani Rowlinson rounded out the field for the Gaels, finishing just outside the top 10 in 11th place in a time of 24:01.8.
The men's team last competed at the USF Invitational, where they finished 4th out of 14 teams overall. Sam Tyas ran a solid race throughout, finishing 7th overall in a time of 25:12.3 in the 8k race. He was one of two Gaels to place inside the top-10, with his time being tops among all SMC runners. Tyas and his 25:12.3 time were the third-fastest amongst all West Coast Conference runners in the race.
