XC | Personal Bests Fuel Gaels at UC Riverside Invitational

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Saint Mary's Men's Cross Country Team competed in the UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday morning which saw five Gaels run personal bests in the 8K race.
The Gaels, who finished 20th out of 30 teams, were led by sophomore Blaine Reynolds. The San Mateo finished 52nd in a time of 24:34.8, a personal best by over 30 seconds. Sam Tyas and Curtis Volf followed Reynolds with times of 25:17.6 and 25:17.9, finishing in 126th and 127th respectively. Volf's 25:17.9, a personal best by nearly a minute, proved to be the biggest personal improvement of the day for the Gaels.
Richard McLain followed Volf, finishing 162nd in a time of 25:34.8 for the Gaels, with teammate Luke Bland not far behind finishing in a time of 25:37.0. Bland's time was another personal best, an 18 second improvement.
Junior Thomas Osborne was next to finish for Saint Mary's, claiming 191st in a personal best time of 25:54.9. Freshman Noah Pagaran also ran a solid race for the Gaels, finishing just behind Osborne with a time of 25:58.3.
Troy Coulston and Angel Castro rounded out the field for the Gaels, as they finished 201st and 205threspectively. Coulston's 26:01.2 was a 44 second improvement on his previous personal best.

Both the Men's and Women's Saint Mary's Cross-Country teams will next head down to Lodi, California where they'll compete in the Pacific Invite on September 30.
