BERKELEY, Calif. – SMC Men's Tennis had another split-squad weekend for their early-season action, with some Gaels participating in the Battle of the Bay Classic and others at the Napa Valley College Tennis Invitational.
Â
James Watt came up just short in round one in the Men's Singles at the Battle of the Bay Classic, losing a close one to No. 5 Jacob Fearnley of Texas Christian University 7-5, 6-4.
Â
Fearnley would go on to win the singles competition, while Watt would go on a good run in the consolation bracket, making it all the way to the semifinals. That semi-final match was even more of a nail-baiter for Watt, losing 6-4, 0-6, and a 13-11 tie breaker to Alex Martinez of the University of Oklahoma.
Â
Watt and
Thibaud Maxant made the Battle of the Bay as a doubles tandem, but lost 8-3 to Ryder Jackson and Lucas Magnaudet of Cal.
Â
Maxant recorded a victory in the Napa College Invitational, beating Thomas Navarro of UNLV 6-3, 1-0 (retired). Aiden Watt got in his first action of the season, in a 6-1, 6-1 loss to San Diego State's Matthieu Josserand. The younger Watt also paired up with USF's Luka Kalenic to go 1-1 in a pair of doubles matches.
