MORAGA, Calif. —With the Saint Mary's Beach Volleyball roster expanding in advance of the season, the Gaels have added two more newcomers to help bolster the future depth of the team. Halsey Brumitt and Delaney Nicholls are set to join the Gaels next year, a pair of talented players at the high school level that will make an immediate impact. They are set to arrive after they graduate high school this spring.

Brumitt is the pride of Happy Valley, Oregon, the same hometown as Kash Oladapo from the Men's Soccer team, and is a graduate of Clackamas High School. She lettered three seasons on the varsity team and put up impressive numbers, racking up 857 kills along with 393 digs, 87 aces, and 45 blocks. Her career arc was impressive, which included a stellar senior season at Clackamas. She set the state record for most kills in a match with 37, and that was just an appetizer for things to come on the year.

Brumitt collected a number of awards during that outstanding senior season, including First Team All-League, and was included on the AVCA All-American Watchlist in the middle of the year. By the end of the season, in early 2023, Brumitt was selected All-State for Oregon 6-A. The 5'11" Brumitt was earned a total of three All-League honors as an outside hitter and says that "Saint Mary's has everything with I'm looking for in a school and a volleyball program."

Nicholls took a bit of a different high school path to the collegiate level, coming from Hebron High School in Carrollton, Texas. She played volleyball her first two years of high school before stopping to focus solely on beach volleyball the final two years. During that time, she medaled in over 20 regional tournaments in Texas from 2020-22, including a first-place finish at the USA V North Texas BNQ in 2021. She also scored a pair of top-five finishes at the AAU Nationals in 2021 (third place) and BVA Nationals in 2022 (fifth place).

The Frisco native returned to the indoor scene as a senior where she was the team manager, and now will continue her volleyball career on the sand in Moraga. Saint Mary's is a perfect fit for Nicholls, who says that everything "from the size of the school and classrooms, to the athletic facilities and the beach courts being on campus" was exactly what she was looking for in a college.

The 2023 spring portion of the beach volleyball schedule officially gets underway in Hawaii when the Gaels play in the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic on February 23-25. Saint Mary's will face some of the best competition in the country during that tournament, as they faced four ranked teams last season in the same event. Their home opener is scheduled for March 10 against UC Davis and Utah.
