Broncos Pull Away from Gaels in Second Half

MORAGA, Calif - Gaels fight hard against No.16 Santa Clara Wednesday afternoon.

Santa Clara scored just over a minute into the match and tacked on three more goals in the second half to defeat the Gaels 4-0 in Saint Mary's Stadium.

Thirty seconds after the Broncos scored their first goal, Emily Jensen attempted her first shot of the game right outside the penalty area where Santa Clara's goalkeeper, Marlee Nicholos, made a save. The Broncos outshot SMC 10-4 in the first half. In the 20^th and 25^th minute Emmie Ennis and Jenson attempted a shot, where both shots were blocked by a Bronco defender. The last Gael to attempt a shot in the first half was Briana Salvetti where she headed the ball just missing to the left side of the net.

Within four minutes of the second half, the Broncos put up their second goal. Gaels had possession when it was intercepted on the run by Farrah Walters outside of the penalty box. She pushed the ball ahead, got around a Gael defender, got to the middle of the penalty area, and fired with her right foot into the left corner of the net to make it 2-0.

Trailing by two, SMC made some adjustments and took a total of seven shots in the second hald, including four shots between the 61^st and 67^th minute. Salvetti, Emma Barthel, and Isabel Lendman shots all got saved by the keeper, Makena Carr shot wide right and just missed the goal.

In the 70th minute Santa Clara, Colby Barnett, dribbled the ball to the middle of the field to the top of the penalty area, where her pass to Walters was deflected, but still made it to her teammate, and Walters blasted a left-footed shot into the upper left corner of the net for a 3-0 Broncos lead.

In the 80^th minute Lendman attempted her second shot where it was once again saved by Nicolos. With two minutes remaining Ennis took another shot wide left of the goal just missing for the Gaels.
