WAIKIKI, Hawaii — The Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic wrapped up on Saturday morning with Saint Mary's needing to win to keep playing. In their opening match, they staved off elimination by taking down Stephen F. Austin for the second time in as many days, which moved them into the semifinals where they drew No. 1 UCLA. Their run in Hawaii ended there after dropping the semis match to the Bruins and then losing the third-place match against No. 10 Hawaii, which puts the Gaels at 2-5 after their first tournament of the spring season.

Match 1: Saint Mary's 3, Stephen F. Austin 2
Â
Despite the results being different, Saturday's match between Saint Mary's and SFA felt nearly the same. The final two pairs came down to the third set, and the Gaels were able to get the clincher. That came from
Karmin Brown and
Hannah Couch in the threes, who were able to beat the Stephen F. Austin pair they lost to just one day prior. They cruised through the first set with a 21-9 win, and after losing the third set, they never trailed in the final set. With the score tied at 9-9, they then got the next four points to go up 13-9 and all but secure the win for the Gaels.
Â
Allie Cataldo and
Sadie Shipman won for the second time in as many days against SFA, doing so by identical scores of 21-11. The other victory for Saint Mary's came from their top pair, with
Hawley Harrer and
Daniella Kensinger continuing a good run they've had in Hawaii by winning 21-15 and 21-13 over the top pair for SFA.

Match 2: No. 1 UCLA 5, Saint Mary's 0
Â
The Gaels fell in all five pairs against the Bruins for the second time, but they nearly took one away at the end. Again it was the threes that went the distance, this time with
Karmin Brown and
Hannah Couch again delivering a strong performance. They won the opening set 21-19, but lost the second set 21-14. The third set was perhaps the most thrilling of the whole tournament, as Brown and Couch went toe-to-to with Tessa Van Winkle and Sophie Moore of UCLA. The score was tied at 13-13 and continued to flip flop until it was 18-18. The Bruins third pair wound up grabbing the final two points of the set and close out the win, but for Brown and Couch, they enjoyed a great day in the threes.
Â
The top pair for Saint Mary's of
Hawley Harrer and
Daniella Kensinger offered some competition in their second set against UCLA's top pair, scoring 16 points but coming up just short. In the fours, it was
Allie Cataldo and
Sadie Shipman putting up a couple of solid efforts against the UCLA fours, but they dropped both sets by finals of 21-16 and 21-15.

Match 3: No. 10 Hawaii 5, Saint Mary's 0
Â
Saint Mary's took three matches down to the wire against the Rainbow Wahine, but they were unable to walk away with a win despite some great battles.
Karmin Brown and
Hannah Couch again went to three sets after they won their second set, but put up just eight points in the third set.
Sadie Shipman and
Allie Cataldo were in a good spot after winning the first set 21-14 and leading in the second, but it went three sets and they lost 15-11.
Hawley Harrer and
Daniella Kensinger wrapped up the trip to Hawaii by going to three sets against Hawaii's top pair, coming the closest to winning, but falling 15-12.
