SAN MATEO, Calif. — With the West Coast Conference Tournament having come and gone, the WCC announced its annual All-WCC awards. After finishing fourth place in the conference, Saint Mary's beach volleyball is represented with three players on this year's team, including one with First Team All-WCC honors. Hawley Harrer was named All-WCC First Team, while Karmin Brown and Daniella Kensinger were named Second Team All-WCC.
HOW ABOUT HAWLEY?
Hawley Harrer fininshes off a stellar season, both indoor and beach, with First Team All-WCC honors for the first time in her career, and the second time she's landed postseason beach honors. She was one of the top performers for Saint Mary's all season, teaming up with Daniella Kensinger to go 21-12. Those were the most wins for any pair all season long, and 17 of those came in the top spot (17-11 overall). If the Gaels were taking down ranked teams, it was usually thanks to Harrer and Kensinger. They earned wins over #7 Stanford, #9 Cal, #17 Tulane, and #18 Pepperdine. Harrer concludes this beach season with a grand total of 46 wins in her Saint Mary's career, the most on the team during her time in Moraga.
KONGRATS, KARMIN!
Alongside Harrer as one of the veterans on this year's beach team was Karmin Brown, who was named Second Team All-WCC for the first time in her career. Her season was one of the best that the Gaels had to offer this year, piling up 16 wins which was good for second best on the team behind Harrer and Kensinger. Brown was also paired up with a freshman all season long in Hannah Couch, and the two of them found immediate success, picking up a win against #9 Stanford in the opening week of the year. She also scored the clinching point against #18 Pepperdine to beat the Waves and advance to the title match of the West Coast Challenge.
FRESHMAN FUN
Much of the same sentiments can be said for Daniella Kensinger, who earned a pair of honors as the season wrapped up. Kensinger was named Second Team All-WCC and landed on the All-WCC Freshman Team. She was one of those rare freshmen who came in and immediately made an impact in the top spot, teaming up with Hawley Harrer to become one of the best pairs in the conference. She scored four ranked wins in her first season, part of 21 individual wins. While there were many new faces on this year's Gaels roster that contributed, Kensinger rose to the top and became deserving of both awards from the conference.
REST OF THE AWARDS
LMU dominated the major awards in the conference, winning Coach of the Year, Pair of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Defensive Player of the Year. They accounted for five of the 10 spots on the First Team, and two more on the Second Team. Saint Mary's and Santa Clara tie for third in the conference in terms of postseason awards, with Pepperdine coming in second.
