MORAGA, Calif. — Coming off of their best WCC finish in over a decade, Saint Mary's Softball is priming to build off of last year's campaign. With the season now less than six months out, Head Coach Sonja Garnett is excited to announce the final two signings of her incoming class of 2023; Averie Prescott and Camille Lara.
Averie Prescott is 5-4 catcher/third baseman who spent the past three years starting for Marina High School in Huntington Beach. She batted a team-high .391 this past season, driving in 19 runs. For her solid season, she was named as a second team All-Sunset League honoree.
"Averie is coming off of a strong High School Season where she spent most of her year at third base." noted Coach Garnett, "She is a great offensive player, and has some versatility as both a catcher and third baseman. We look forward to having her join us in a few weeks."
Prescott will join Angelina Franco and Jenavee Amador in the group of primary catchers for the Gaels in 2024.
Coming to Moraga from Cerritos High School is Camille Lara, a 5-2 speedy outfielder. An offensive juggernaut for the Dons, Lara batted .569 over her three seasons at Cerritos, using a combination of speed and power to put up these gaudy numbers. She was a three time first-team All-League and three time first-team All-Area selectee.
About Lara, Coach Garnett stated, "Camille is a savvy triple threat athlete with speed. We look forward to her elevating our outfield. Camille fits in nicely and will be a solid addition to our speed game."
The Gaels boast an extremely impressive outfield, as Lara should slot in with the likes of returning starters Hannah Ferguson and Marissa Nishihara.
