MORAGA, Calif. – Saint Mary's Women's Basketball has released its 2023-24 schedule, which features a competitive mix of new foes and familiar faces in Jeff Cammon's first year as Head Coach.
NON-CONFERENCE SLATE
The Gaels will open the season at Grand Canyon University on November 6 for the first ever meeting between the two programs. GCU is coming off a 21-10 season where they reached the semifinals of the WAC tournament.
SMC will have just one other road game in November when they head down to Texas to take on Rice for just the third time in program history, and the first time in Houston on November 19.
The rest of November will feature a lot of home cooking for the Gaels, including hosting their annual Thanksgiving Classic. This year Saint Mary's will play North Carolina A&T and Illinois State for their post-turkey day showdowns on the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving.
December kicks off by staying in the Bay Area to take on local rival Cal in Berkeley, Calif on the second. They'll host Montana State on December 8 after playing them in Bozeman last season, before staying local again for a road game against UC Davis on the 10th.
The most unique match ups of the pre-conference schedule will be playing Washington for the first time since 2013 when they go to Seattle on December 16, and going to the University of Denver for the programs' first ever meeting on December 21.
The Gaels will then wrap up the calendar year hosting San Jose State on the 29th as they look to keep their perfect record against their neighbors from the Mountain West.
WCC SCHEDULE
The new year brings in WCC action on January 4 to host Pacific, as the Gaels look to get even with a Tigers team that knocked them out of the conference tournament last March. That game begins a stretch of three straight home match ups to start WCC play, with San Diego and LMU to follow.
A stretch of three-straight road games follows the Gaels' initial home stand to start conference play. They'll head to the Pacific Northwest to play the top two finishers in the WCC last season at Portland on the 18th and Gonzaga on the 20th. Then just a short trip to play Pacific in Stockton, Calif. on January 25 to close out the road stretch.
Ancient rival Santa Clara comes to town for the last game of January on the 27th, before Portland visits University Credit Union Pavilion to flip the calendar over to February on the third. Gonzaga, Pepperdine, and USF will come to Moraga, Calif. to conclude the Gaels' home schedule in February.
Saint Mary's will have a regular season game in March when they finish the campaign in Malibu, Calif. to play Pepperdine on March 2. The WCC Tournament is slated for March 7-12 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
