CHENEY, Wash. – Saint Mary's Women's Soccer racked up six goals against Eastern Washington on Sunday afternoon, pulling away for a 6-3 victory over the Eagles. The six goals scored are the second-most in a single game in program history, just behind the seven goals scored in October of 1994 against Gonzaga.

The Gaels actually trailed early on in the game, allowing Eastern Washington to take a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute on a goal by Morgan Maddie.

But Saint Mary's would answer in the 23rd. A Gaels corner was headed out of the box by EWU, but the ball ended up on the feet of Savannah Schwarze who took two touches and fired it low past the keeper.

That equalizer would be just the beginning, as the Gaels would score again 10 minutes later. SMC went ahead in the 33rd minute after a long run up the far wing by Emmie Ennis, who knifed towards the middle and fired a shot into the top right corner for her first collegiate goal.

In the 38th minute Saint Mary's took a two-goal lead when Ennis put a through ball forward to Sydney Middaugh, who fired a rocket of a shot from about 25 yards out into the upper left corner of the net to make it 3-1 Gaels going into the half.

And they would open the second half in attack mode as well, when Briana Salvetti played a cross into the box from the near wing to Schwarze who stuck her right foot out and flicked it past the defender to go up 4-1 in the 55th minute.

However, EWU would score just two minutes later to bring it back to a two-goal lead, and put another in the back of the net in the 63rd minute to cut it to a one-goal game. Both goals were scored by Maddie to give her the hat trick.

The Gaels were able to regain their two-goal cushion just four minutes later though on a penalty kick. Freshman Micaela Romo was taken down in the box, and Salvetti converted the penalty for, at the time, her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

It would happen again in the 85th minute, as a Gael was dropped in the penalty area and Salvetti would score on an almost identical penalty kick by chipping it towards the right-side of the net for her sixth goal on the year.

The two-goal games were both career firsts for Schwarze and Salvetti.
