BREMERTON, Wash. - The Saint Mary's Golf Team is up north in Washington for the University of Washington Invitational which will be held Monday and Tuesday, September 18-19.
THE COURSE
This year's event is being contested at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, just west of Seattle. The Olympic Course at Gold Mountain is dramatically sculpted within a dense evergreen forest nestled just above Puget Sound and measures in at over 7,100 yards. The Olympic Course, host of the 2011 US Junior Amateur won by Jordan Spieth, is a demanding yet fair test of undulating golf with ample driving corridors and unique options for approaching each green.
Gold Mountain holds two courses, with golfers competing strictly as individuals which won't be counted on the team score in a second tournament on the Cascade course.
Two years ago Mikey Slesinski finished second at the Husky Invitational, narrowly missing a tie for first and having the tournaments best round with a 66.
THE FIELD
The participating teams alongside Saint Mary's are the University of Washington, UC Berkeley, Colorado State, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Oregon State, San Diego State, San Jose State, Seattle University, UCLA, Utah, and Washington State.
The Gaels are coming off a strong performance in Michigan two weeks ago with a top ten finish as a team as well as a strong performance in the individual event with
Kristian Bressum and
Aidan Lee finishing tied for fourth and seventh respectively.
