SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Gaels extend their unbeaten streak to six games with a scoreless tie in Santa Barbara on Sunday afternoon.Â
Â
SMC (6-2-2) applied pressure to UCSB (2-3-5) staying in the Gauchos territory for the majority of the half. The Gaels out shot the Gauchos 4-1, with both Savannah Schwarze and Micaela Romo's shots getting blocked in the first 25 minutes. Late in the first half with back to back attempts, Emma Barthel and Briana Salvetti both shot to the bottom right of the net after corner kicks and were denied on solid stops by the Gauchos keeper.
Â
The Gaels remained in attack mode against the Gauchos in the second half and continued to outshoot UCSB 10-5. In the 49th minute Schwarze from right outside of the box, took a shot where it took a bounce right in front of the keeper. Quickly after, the Gaels had a dynamic play causing the Gauchos to bring more players deeper into the box to help their keeper, when SMC switched the ball from the far wing to the near wing around the 18 yard mark where Alessandra Towle attempted to take a shot. In the 66th minute, Emily Jensen received a pass from Barthel where Jensen shot it from well outside the box as it lands into the keeper's hands.Â
Â
Just 10 minutes later, Salvetti attempted another shot where Schwarze chipped the ball to Salvetti as she headed the ball and barely missed to the right of net. In the 83rd minute, Jensen attempted her second shot aiming for the bottom center of the net that was hauled in by the UCSB keeper. Three minutes later, Towle took another shot that was just off target to the right.
Â
SMC out shot UCSB 10-5 with four Gaels having two attempts in Schwarze, Salvetti, Towle, and Jensen. Sophomore goalkeeper, Isabella Banuelos record her third shutout in just her third start, requiring just one official save to earn the clean sheet.
